Loose diamond or those that are not yet mounted on any jewelry has a lot of qualities. These qualities are to be considered in finding the right one to put on your wedding ring. The most common qualities that are considered before choosing the diamond are color, clarity, cut and carat. Color is the amount of the touch of yellow in the diamond. Under the assumption that the other qualities are equal, the clearer the diamond, the better quality it has. This is usually marked D, E and F. Another quality of your loose diamonds for your Wedding Ring or Engagement Rings is clarity. Clarity is how flawless the diamond is. At a certain magnification, diamonds has small flaws. There are also some flaws that are seen with the naked eye, which means it is of lower clarity. High clarity grade is marked as IF, then, VVS1 down to SI2 in some websites. Carat, on the other hand, is the weight of the diamond. If all other three qualities are equal, heavier diamonds are more valuable. Cut of the diamond is also very important. An excellent cut of a diamond brings out the brilliance and fire. The cut also provides for the diamond shape sometimes. There are Emerald Cut Diamonds, Heart Cut Diamonds, Round Brilliant Diamonds Cut, Princess Cut and other popular cuts.
1 carat is equal to 200 milligrams and is divided into 100 points. So a diamond of 150 mg, would be 75 points or 3/4th of a carat. The heavier the diamond, the more the carats and the more it costs.
There are entities such as a museum, private organization or a person who buy certain items fulfilling their requirements. If you think your valuables are rare, which can easily happen if it is in your family for some generations, you must approach these entities. Or if there is something unique about it such as the design, shape or if the diamond has some characteristics that are rarely found, then, you can locate a collector of such items and strike a bargain.
There are some diamond jewelry which are marketed as best lab created diamond, but in reality they are not. These are in reality fake diamonds, they look similar to real ones, but are actually diamond simulants also called synthetic diamonds. Moissanite and cubic zirconia are some of the common diamond simulants which are most commonly found in the market. If you want to distinguish between lab created diamonds and diamond simulants, you can do it by carrying out a simple test. You can take the diamond and let sunlight reflect through it. A lab created diamond would reflect more light than a diamond simulant. Alternatively, you can opt to take the diamond to a jeweler, who would look through his loupe and tell you the difference. Cubic zirconia is actually made of synthetic substances which are visible under a special magnifying glass available with a jeweler.
