In 1839, this blue gemstone came into the possession of Henry Phillip Hope. It is from his last name, that it got its present name. When he died in 1862, his wife inherited it. She later presented it to her second grandson, Lord Francis Hope. He being a gambler, lost all his wealth, and finally had to auction the 'Hope', in order to pay off his debts.
It is only because of this unique trait and the color pattern of these brown diamonds, that they are also known as Champagne Diamonds, Cognac Diamonds, and of course, Chocolate Diamonds! Chocolate diamonds were named so by the famous Le Vian Corp and from then on, brown diamond jewelry is famously known as the chocolate diamond jewelry. They are mined from the well-known Argly diamond mine in Kimberly, Australia, which is one of the largest contributors of these diamonds all across the globe.
Diamonds are indeed very expensive; so before buying any jewelry, keep the 4 C's in mind: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Buy your jewelry from a trusted and reputed brand. Remember to get the GIA certificates for your jewelry (especially during on-line transactions).
