For all those diamond tennis bracelet lovers out there, you can thank Chris Evert. Tennis bracelets came to be popular or came to be known when Chris Evert lost her ever-present diamond bracelet during the 1987 US Open Tennis Championship. She requested for the match to be suspended till she found her bracelet. That is how we got the Diamond 'Tennis' Bracelet. More and more tennis players are now wearing bracelets during matches, like Gabriella Sabatini and Serena Williams.
Black diamonds are found only in Brazil and the Central African Republic. Approximately 600 tons of conventional diamonds have been mined, traded, polished since 1900. But not a single black diamond has been discovered in the world's mining fields. The geological settings where diamonds are found or mined are virtually identical with the one exception, the Black Diamond.
The KPCS also provides certification of all diamond roughs as emerging from sources that are free of civil or military conflict. This clause along with the regulations and legislations are framed with a motive of rendering the mining or trade of blood diamonds unprofitable and thus, decrease their incidence.
In Mineralogy, a diamond is studied as the second most stable form of carbon; the first being graphite. The superlative physical qualities associated with a diamond are characterized by the covalent bonding between its atoms. This form of carbon is popular for its hardness and thermal conductivity. Cutting and polishing of this element enhances its optical characteristics. There are different types of cuts used to work around the rigid lattice and wide transparency. According to the application, a diamond is cut to attain a clear and colorless appearance, devoid of defects or impurities. In the original form, diamonds are known to display color variations according to the impurities present in them. While boron content gives the diamond a blue color, nitrogen gives it a yellowish tinge, and lattice defects result in a slightly brown hue. The stone displays a high optical dispersion, and distinct and characteristic luster, that makes it one of the most sought after gems. Diamonds are synonymous with excellent mechanical and optical properties that are further enhanced by the right cuts.
