About 24% of the world's diamond supply is sourced by alluvial mining. Deposits are known to exist in Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Central African Republic, Guinea, Liberia, Tanzania, Angola, Togo, Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, and South Africa.
In the case of a blue colored diamond some of the nitrogen has been replaced by Boron. Boron will reflect the blue wavelength of the light spectrum. The higher the concentration of boron the more color will be showed. At a level of one or a few boron atoms for every million-carbon atom, an attractive blue color results.
Carat refers to the standard unit of weight that is used to measure the weight of a diamond . One carat is equal to 200 milligrams. Once the cut, color, and clarity have been decided, it is easy to determine the weight. Sometimes the weight is also expressed in 'points'. One carat is equal to 100 points. Carat refers to the weight and not the size of the stone. A shallow cut gemstone may have a larger diameter and look bigger than a deep cut variety of the same weight.
You must be aware that diamonds are available in a variety of colors like white, pink, green, blue, and black. The canary diamond is a variety of yellow diamond, which is quite distinct from the other shades of yellow diamonds that have darker shades of vivid yellow or traces of green. This diamond is a pure, light yellow without any traces of other color shades. It is named so because the color resembles the coat of a canary bird. It is also called a lemon yellow diamond or simply, the lemon diamond.
