Moissanite is also known as silicon carbide, as the former is a synthesized form of the latter. Silicon carbide was first artificially synthesized in the laboratory by Jons Jacob Berzelius, to produce this gemstone. The naturally occurring, extremely rare mineral moissanite, was first discovered by Henri Moissan, after which it is named. It is one of the hardest known substance. It was first produced as a substitute and was meant to replace diamond as an abrasive agent and a cutting material. Its crystalline characteristics are also similar to the latter, as the covalent bonds that hold it together are surprisingly similar.
Color grading scales used by the internationally recognized laboratories (GIA and IGI for example), ranges from totally colorless (D) to pale yellow or brown color (Z). Brown diamonds darker than K color are usually described using their letter grade, and a descriptive phrase, for example M Faint Brown. Diamonds with more depth of color than Z color fall into the fancy color diamond range.
This quotation rightly expresses what girls actually feel about diamonds. Diamonds are precious stones that have their own significance. Every girl in this world wishes to own it. A piece of diamond jewelry holds a special place in her life whether it is gifted by someone or bought on her own. That's why, this special piece requires special care and attention to retain its beauty and shine. A clean diamond looks beautiful and vibrant as compared to a dirty one. These precious stones attract grease and dirt like magnets. Dirt can either form a film on their surface or settle below the setting in the jewelry. In both the cases, luster and brilliance of the diamond gets highly reduced. It is therefore necessary to clean your jewelry regularly.
Diamonds are a metastable allotrope of carbon. In them, the carbon atoms are arranged in a face-centered cubic-crystalline structure, known as diamond lattice. There exists a strong covalent bond between these atoms. This makes diamond the hardest as well as the most thermally conductive material in the world. Diamonds are rated 10 (hardest) on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. The most sought-after diamonds are the colorless ones. They are completely free of impurities, and are made of pure carbon atoms.
